Horror movies typography

I have gone through the process of looking at different typography types in genres of Horror, so that if we decided to create a trailer for a Horror film we could use these as influences for our ideas.

 Nightmare on Elm Street:

  • Red and black conforms to typical horror movies although it lacks the white
  • Around the text there is blood splattered to imply that it could be a slasher movie, although it is a mix between supernatural and slasher
  • "Nightmare" and "Elm Street" are both in capitals to show that they are the most important part, and to make the audience see how the nightmare only takes place in that location

The Ring:
  • White and black colours - implies it's a supernatural horror
  • The text appears to be written by a young child due to the lack of capital letters and handwriting ability
  • There is the odd white streak across the text to create a sense of distortion in the audience

Insidious:
  • The letter "I" is replaced with what appears to be a double sided graveyard fence to imply some form of evil is present
  • The colour scheme is red, white and blue, the traditional horror movie colours
  • There appears to be either sparks or flames coming off of the text, this could mean there is a presence of the devil or demons

Sinister:
  • Shadow of text is almost a mouldy dripping down the wall
  • The colour scheme almost makes it appear as an old scroll, or even a wall that has worn away
  • The cracks on the wall support the fact that it is old
  • The letters are separated to show a sense of isolation
