Deconstruction of 'Black Mass' posters
By Connor Taylor
Black Mass being a major source of inspiration for our 1 minute trailer, I decided that I would deconstruct a few posters to see what they have used in the posters as well, not just their trailers.
The colour scheme of the poster is very apparent with dull and misty grey with a tint of yellow, however the part that most stands out from this is the bold red righting of the title and the red strip of actors/actresses faces mid bottom.
The text below the title also has a powerful effect for those who read it as it says 'The unholy alliance between the FBI and Whitey Bulger, on of the most notorious gangsters in U.S. history'. This creates a big impact on the audience as it suggests that good people who defend others are working with bad people, causing surprise and curiosity to discover more.
Also with the use of stating he was one of the most notorious gangsters in history entices people as they will wan to find out more about him and what was so notorious.
The use of the actors faces are also used to help boost the initial appearance of the film, with some of the actors names holding prestige among the audience and companies alike.
In this poster a high angle shot is used to present a clear image to the audience for them to quickly make a judgement on the films genre and most likely parts (gun violence).
This poster like the other two also uses a bold red colour for the title to show a presence of danger in the film.
The dark cloud starting to block out the sun also makes the poster suggest that his presence may be darkening the people and the areas which he is in.
This poster however has the main character/defining part of the poster at the bottom of the poster, unconventional for most posters as it runs the chance of being overlooked by the viewers.
This poster also has the credit/production information mid center of the poster, where most posters have it at the bottom, as few people care about it and it doesn't look too impressive.
