Deconstruction of title shots and voice overs in trailers

Deconstruction of title shots and voice overs in trailers

By Connor Taylor

Assault on Wall Street:

As per most trailers, this one has the main production company name at the beginning to help boost initial views on the trailer.

Then further as it starts with actual shots of the the film a clear image of the movie is being presented to the audience so that there is little confusion with the words 'Wall Street' an iconic business district which handles a large portion of America's money and the stock market.

Then these two shots appear to suggest that many of the employees and managers are a little more corrupt than people realize, suggesting that people that are more greedy are better of.

Then the next three title shots are simple statements all suggesting to go against the common traits of the corrupt businessmen and 'Fight' them, and also for the better or 'Justice'.

Then at the last title shot at the end of the trailer the title of the movie as per tradition in trailers.

The voice overs in this trailer are mainly just speech from the actual movie, with some of it said in non related parts and then continuing into the actual shot is is from.

Nightcrawler:

Nightcrawler's first title shot is of production companies as per most if not all trailers, however Nightcrawler's title shot didn't start in the first 10 seconds like most, it was 43 seconds in, giving a more background approach to the first part before getting into the bulk of the story.

Then the next title shot was on the release date.

In this shot Nightcrawler has said 'From the creators of, The Bourne Legacy' a high selling and popular film and 'From the producers of, Michael Clayton'. These are used to help raise the opinion of the film and add some faith to the audience.

Then this title shot is used to make the audience feel more connected by getting them to think what they would do in this situation, used to boost interest upon watching.

Then the main actor who is an Academy Award Nominee ( a prestigious award for the supposed best of actors/ actresses) 'Jake Gyllenhaal' used to help boost the opinion of the film as a good actor is in it and it adds to the prestige of the film through the use of his name.

Then the last shot as per most trailers with the name of the film.

The voice overs of this film also seem to be speech from the film but placed in different shots which are fast passed so the audience feel there is more in the trailer than what really is.
