- In the teaser trailer of Black Mass we see that the opening is calm and civil. We hear diegetic sounds of cutlery and the diegetic dialogue of Jimmy talking. However, there is cross-cutting from quiet scenes to loud, fast paced non diegetic music and a shot of the city showing that the film is an urban drama. An example of this is the first scene of the trailer where we see the characters sitting down, and then the editing shows a fast paced shot of the city. This highlights Tadorov's theory of the opening being calm, representing equilibrium.
- Fifty seconds into the trailer we see chaos and disequilibrium through a series of short duration shots of action.
The iconography of action, such as the gun fights, partying and more reinforce the attitude of Tadorov's theory through a series of disequilibrium.
- We then see the teaser trailer return to calm and equilibrium again as there is montage editing of the old lady talking to Jimmy as the scene returns to silence with nothing but diegetic dialogue. However, this is then followed by an immediate cross cut action shot of a Jimmy stamping on someone's face and dominant non diegetic music which is fast paced which subverts Tadorov's theory of equilibrium. However, the teaser sustains a restricted narrative which conforms to teaser trailers being enigmatic
- The added disequilibrium at the end of the trailer is released through editing by a non diegetic gunshot sound effect immediately fading the shot to black through a freeze frame to focus the audience's attention on a singular event.
