I went about creating a draft for our film poster, I was looking to experiment with our poster to find a basis for a film poster to work with.
I started off with a plain white backgroundI then retrieved two photos of male models in suits from Google images
I took the background off and then put them both onto the white background
I changed the threshold of both the figures until they appeared like a silhouette
As we haven't come up with a title yet, I decided to go with something simple, "Suit Up" with the Magneto font style
I duplicated and translated each of around 10 layers that I set to a grey colour
I grouped them together to create 3 smart objects behind the original text, after this I added a difference of grey and black to a gradient for the original text
I bolded the edges of the title with a glow and added a strand of paint across the backdrop to add some density to the poster
I separated the two figures to go along with the golden rule as they occupy two of the points.
I selected both ties in different layers and turned them blue and red to add some colour and to show that they aren't the same person
I attained a picture of Canary Wharf at night from Google images
I took the background off, transferred it to the poster and reduced the opacity
I used the smudge tool to distort Canary Wharf to show that things are not as they seem
I got a picture of the night time sky from Google images and removed the ground
I transferred this to the poster, reduced the opacity, stretched it towards Canary Wharf, and smudged the base to blend it in
I decided not to add actor's names, the director and other text involved as we have not yet done enough research into how it should be presented.
I think the poster was successful as we now have a basis to work with when creating our final piece, and we know roughly what we need to do and what we shouldn't do when creating it.
I find the distorted city effective as if it is done right it could look very professional, along with the silhouettes of the men.
