Practical: Locations

Location Research: Practical

  •  Extreme long shot of London. Urban setting is a common convention for crime dramas.
  • Modern buildings in the foreground represent wealth for business districts which supports the narrative of our trailer.
  • Also relevance to older, traditional buildings to indicate heritage for London. Examples would be Battersea Tower in the background of the picture. We also see older buildings in the foreground along the right hand side.
  • Maintaining the idea of tall modern day buildings. Building on the left side of the picture is made up of glass. Modern day buildings shows more wealth making it an ideal location for a business company.
  • High urban density which is important for our location as the common conventions of drama thrillers are based in urban areas.
  • Located on Victoria Street, meaning it's busy during the working day making it ideal for our trailer as busy locations are important uses for iconography in our trailer.

  • Tall buildings are a common convention. They add to the business district illusion that we are using for our trailer.
  • Examples that we are basing our trailer on also use the use of tall buildings and skyscrapers in urban locations.
Batman The Dark Night: Locations Deconstruction

  •  Use of city-skyscrapers as conventions of an urban crime drama because the buildings connote to business districts.
  • Use of modern buildings through lighting.
  • Ariel shot of city at night time. Dark lighting represents dark side of business.

  •  In the background we see heavy urban density with large sky scrapers. Conforms to common representations that all dramas take place in the city.
  • We see both modern and old buildings in the pan shot. This suggests that not all buildings in drama films need to be modern.
  • High angle shots of the buildings to see scale of city.
  • High angle shot of the buildings to see shot of the city. Shots usually come from the building rooftops. This is something we could use as inspiration for our trailer.
  • Getting shots with different lighting is also important because trailers which we have used have a variation of both bright and dark contrast lighting.

  •  We see a low angle shot of an older street. Low angle shots of the buildings make them look bigger. The sky-scraper in the background is shown to tower over everything else.
  • Unable to see the sky signifies that the audience are enclosed in with the narrative.
