Deconstruction of Title shot word use in 'Limitless'
By Connor Taylor
Our trailer as every other trailer will have title scenes, therefore I found that it would be invaluable research to deconstruct the title shots of a trailer which also conforms to our genre.
The first title which says 'it can solve any problem' is used to start to introduce the main aspect of the film being the NZT-48, a drug which greatly increases brain productivity. This title shot is used specifically to show the audience the impact of this drug.
The next title shot says 'it can unlock your potential' suggesting further that the drug is an answer to the main protagonists issues as it suggests that the drug can help be his best. Therefore this title shot is used to further unravel the story line without revealing anything substantial to the narrative.
Then at this next title shot 'but once the world is yours' suggesting a negative climax to the protagonist with the single word 'but' to immediately suggesting that their is something bad or a substantial change in the plot.
The next title shot 'everyone wants a piece' then suggests that the drug that the main character is using may start to become more known and starting conflict among characters in order to gain this item which the movie evolves around.
Then about two thirds of the way in to the trailer their is a shot stating the rough release time, which for this trailer is march, which is used to help build hype and make people involuntarily be aware of its release.
Then nearing the end their is the title shots of the main actors in the film, which is used to help raise the general audiences opinion of the film as they will think that the film production company must have some faith in it.
Overall I thought that this film trailer was very beneficial as it had a wide range of word use for the title shots giving me a clear understanding of what may need to be included in my own and especially as they have the same genre.
