Movie critic comments in trailers

Movie critic comments in trailers

Having research and watched countless film trailers that are directly and partly related to my genre of film, I have found that it is not a common convention to have Movie critic comments and reviews in our trailer. For example, films including: The Wolf of Wall Street, The Big Short, Black Mass, Limitless and Legend do not have any sort of movie critic comments or reviews or even star ratings in their trailers duration.

The reason for these films and others not including ratings or reviews it because it could break up the tension building within the trailer as the genre of film and the narrative for most of films relies on high paced, adrenaline fuelled sequences. Due to this the film trailer is able to engage their target market and by having slots in the trailer for these ratings and reviews would not create the same effect as having the trailer without them.

However, the films as a package don't leave out movie critics comments and star ratings as they seem to have left those for their film posters. As seen our examples from our genre that show the film posters have multiple star ratings and comments from the film being reviewed that are absent in the trailers. Consequently, we will have ensure that our poster and trailer are as coherent and similar as the other in order for a strong promotional film package.

As a result of this feature not being a common convention in my genre of films it would be unnecessary for us to include any type of reviews or comments because it would not be conforming with the common conventions of our film genre. Additionally because the our genre of film, Urban Drama, is very niche and therefore isn't a variety of scope to see if some films have some common conventions and if others don't, they all seem to follow the same sets of conventions and steering away from these would discredit our trailer.
