For our trailer we wanted to convey the idea of wealth and business. As a result I researched suit hirings as part of our clothing to conform to common depictions of an urban crime drama to see if we could match the suits used in professional film trailers. As part of our inspiration, we used the official trailer of 'Skyfall' as we see the main character in a suit throughout the film. The film relates to our genre by being a British drama, making it an effective exemplar for our use of mise en scene.
- The first example from the trailer is of the character in a medium shot showing the blazer, tie, shirt and the characters face. From the shot we see that the use of a dark coloured blazer is important as it is continuous throughout all shots of the trailer. As a result, the character in our trailer is also wearing dark coloured blazers (blue and black) with a dark coloured tie which we also base the dress wear on.
- An example from our trailer links with this shot because we also see the character's suit from the waist up in a medium close up. Although the black jumper is not included in our research, we felt that in filming it didn't affect the portrayal of the character and still conforms to our business drama.
- The second example from the trailer is the more informal look of the suit where we see a close up of the characters face and shoulders. There is no tie included and the top buttons of the actors shirt are undone which makes the appearance of the character less formal but still smart and business like.
- We have included this in the corruption scene of our trailer where we see the character drinking alcohol with colleagues. We decided this look was best because the character's appearance is less business like which conforms to the idea of corruption because we wanted to show that business formalities are not being achieved in a professional way.
- As part of my research I used the internet to search for suit hire companies that we could use to obtain blazers like our example suits from the 'Skyfall' trailer. I found that we could rent suits from this site that would conform to the common media image of business dramas, however we didn't rent any clothing because it was impractical and expensive.
