Spectre poster deconstruction

  • The poster is predominantly black and white, excluding the actual body of Daniel Craig - this could be a reference to the spy/action genre as black is associated with stealth and darkness.
  • He is wearing a tuxedo which could also conform to the spy/action genre as spies are usually known to wear a suit, this also shows he is of higher class.
  • He is holding a gun, this use of mise-en-scene also conforms to the spy/action genre as it refers to violence.
  • Half of the poster is in shadow, and the other half is in the light, which could imply that he has a bad side to him in the movie.
  • There is a bullet hole in the glass which could also conform to genre as it further supports the use of guns.
  • He is not centred, and is placed slightly to the right, covering two of the four points in the rule of thirds.
  • "007" is placed just below the title, with the barrel of a handgun attached to the 7. The 007 is what people know James Bond as, and the gun attached also conforms to genre.
  • He stares into the camera to give intensity and to potentially intimidate the audience, which is what can be effective in an action film.
  • The current reputation of James Bond as a series of films allows this poster to be simple as people know what to expect.
