Deconstruction of Actors
The Departed: Billy Costigan
- Here is one of The Departed main characters who is between 25-30 years old
- He was dark, but not a lot of facial hair but his facial features still make him look the desired age for his character.
- The mise-en-scene of this character consists of plain, dull coloured clothes with a gold chain that has a round tag on it that links to his childhood and where he comes from.
- Now due to our groups age, we do not look as old as he does if we did decide to go down this root of a rugged, disenfranchised police officer.
- If we wanted to look older we would either have to find people of similar age and who look that age for it to be authentic
- Moreover, if we couldn't do that then we would have to look into what make-up and special effects there are out there at our disposal to use to try create ourselves to look older.
The Riot Club: Miles Richards
- Miles from the Riot Club in the film is at his first year at university which would make him between 18-19 years old.
- Unlike Billy from The Departed, Miles due to the age of him in the film, makes it easier for us as a group to find or to act ourselves in our trailer as he is no more than a year older than anyone in our group.
- Additionally, his mise-en-scene throughout the film (apart from this scene/picture) is typical student clothes and style with a hair style that is popular among people our age.
- Also, when he speaks and acts during the film he doesn't sound any older than he looks which is also a positive to take into consideration when we are casting for our trailer.
- Therefore, when compared to Billy from The Departed it reveals that it would be easier and more practical for us to have our character/characters ,preferably, being the same sort of age as miles.
- This is because we wouldn't have to find our people to act for us which means it is much easier when it comes to filming and getting what we want out of the actors, nor would we have to find make-up or special effects to make us look older.
The Wolf of Wall Street: Jordan Belfort
- This Jordan Belfort who is 29 years old in the film the Wolf of Wall Street.
- His mise-en-scene is very typical of a cooperate businessman/Stock Broker with a expensive suit, blue collar shirt and slick back, sharp hairstyle
- This mise-en-scene of Jordan could be used as inspiration for our character as we are hoping to have the same narrative/setting for our film which means people in suits and a business environment.
- However, as in The Departed, Jordan is cast and looks older than anyone in our group which means for our film trailer to look authentic and professional we would need to find other people who look as old as him to act in our trailer which will create some difficulties in out filming process.
- Although , our character is a young man who is fresh out of university and entering the world of business rather than being a person who is already established and had years on experience; which means we wouldn't have to have our character looking as old as 29 years old and more like 21-23 years old.
- On the other hand, if we ourselves wanted to act in the film, we would have to get the opinions of other people to see if we would pass for being around the desired age for our character and whether or not we would need make-up/special effects to other people to act for us.
