Film Poster Deconstruction
Inception
Colour scheme: Dark blue, white misty effect, black shadow. Creates a sense of mystery and instigates an enigmatic feel. Title of film is in red to emphasise the important of the naming of the film.
Picture: it’s a surreal background that makes people look twice and creates mystery
- Tag line: ‘your mind is the scene of the crime’ links to the dream scene of the narrative. Questions reality.
- Typography: Sharp plain font to reflect to at tentative nature of the film
- Actor: The big star actors name is at the top so when people first see that they are in a film they will acknowledge the film poster more attentively.
Fury
- Colour scheme: Dull blacks and greys to portray the eerie, bleak reality of war.
- Background: Pathetic fallacy of the clouds reflects the dark times to come for the protagonist.
- Positioning of image: The main image of the protagonists is in the bottom right hand corner of the poster to engage the audience.
- Title: The title of the film is on the barrel of a tank which links with the title of the film ‘Fury’ as tanks connate war and violence,
- Tagline: ‘War never ends quietly’ creates an enigma in the narrative.
- Typography: The title of the film and actors fonts juxtapose each other which suggests they are being forced to fight.
The Wolf of Wall Street

- Colour Scheme: yellow/gold colour represents the strong presents of money in the film. The fact the protagonists name is in black submerged in the yellow/gold colour suggest the protagonist has been engulfed by money.
- Image: The protagonist is in a slick, formal suit which adds to connotations of a wealthy person. Chaotic celebration in the background juxtaposes the calm state of protagonist. Celebration of money?
- Typography: Is big, bold strict font that has connotations of wall street and money. Represents the bold persona of the protagonist and narrative of the film.
- Monkey: Playing with the people in the background suggest that people on wall street have reverted back to primitive states where they are infatuated by money and sex; there's a stripper as well.
