Creating billings block for the poster
By Connor Taylor
A major part of posters and movie production posters is that they contain a billings block which then contains all of the companies names and peoples names who had major works in the film. Although these are not too visible and are not the first thing people see or the part that they want to see, however it is very noticeable if it is there or not and is required to give credit to the creators.
For the first part of the billings block I needed to note and write down our production companies and the movie title. For this whole process I used a program called Quark Express, a program with the specific use creating typography and materials which contain mainly words which with this program can be easily and greatly altered.
I then altered the spacing size between words and the width of the words as well, so that the text it self would look much like the font that they use for actual billings blocks, as they are all extremely similar and many are identical due to the legal obligations to include them.
I then started to alter the size and width of the words which are not names as traditionally all the names would be bigger and all the other words would be smaller so that viewers could easily deter between the important and the not so important.
Then a final work on the billings block was to find a suitable font which would conform to most poster billings blocks and would also be appropriate for our genre conventions. After some research I found a suitable font, one which would not obscure the writing and that would also look appropriate for our poster.
