filming evaluation 23/01/16
On this day the aim of the filming session was to film a couple of shots to add the final collection of shots that we had of the protagonist drinking and flirting with girls in a club to convey further to the audience the life transformation he's made.
As not all members of our group are 18 we set up the photography room to look like a club. To make it look like a club we change the background to a black sheet and brought in some dance lights to give the impression that the shots being filmed were taking place in a club/bar.
As not all members of our group are 18 we set up the photography room to look like a club. To make it look like a club we change the background to a black sheet and brought in some dance lights to give the impression that the shots being filmed were taking place in a club/bar.
- At first when we started to film the lighting was too bright and thus making the shots look nothing like a club/bar scene.
- To fix this, we turned of the big lights in the room and turned on a photography spotlight and faced it against the wall so it was just the light reflected from that lighting up the shot.
- This change was very effective and gave the shots real believability.
After tackling the issue of lighting, the thing that happened was trying a selection of shots of the characters so we had a variety of ones to choose from in order to find the best one to fit into our trailer.
- The first shot we tried was having the characters all sit down on stools and chat to each other with the dance lights on.
- This shot did work well as it portrayed drinking and suggestive flirting but due to the angles need to capture the perspective we wanted, the black background did not cover everything which was a problem.
- Having experimented with the bar stool shots, we tired the same shot of them but standing up instead.
- Unfortunately this shot encountered the same problem with the backgrounds as last time which was annoying, but it meant we were starting to gather a variety of shots.
- Next, to solve this problem I suggested that we do an over the shoulder mid shot of the protagonist walking towards the two girls who quickly whisper to each other.
- This shot worked very well because the framing and background was perfect and the shot itself looked convincing enough to pass for looking like it was filmed in a club/bar.
Evaluation
- We completed are goal of taking a variety of shots to experiment with in our trailer to use the best on possible.
- The bad lighting at the start was a problem but we were able to deal with it and make it work to fit our ideals when filming.
- The actors that we used to film with all looked over 18 and this was emphasised through their mise-en-scene and also because of the bottle of whiskey.
