For our teaser trailer we wanted to include the character drinking alcohol as part of the corruption to conform to the crime drama element. We achieved this by researching the types of drinks we should include from trailer, such as Legend and tried to copy this. From research we found that we should use more expensive, upper class drinks, such as Scotch and Brandy.
- An example of the props used in the drinking scene was a bottle of Brandy which we thought conformed to the conventions of a business drama because Brandy is a more 'upper class' drink which emphasizes the use reference to business in our teaser trailer.
- The prop was made from using an empty bottle of Brandy and filling it with Apple Juice to give the impression that the actors were drinking real Brandy. This worked effectively as the props looked real and professional. The glass also made the Brandy look more compelling and authentic, making it a good additional prop as a key convention code for our crime drama genre.
- We also used a matured bottle of Port for the additional characters (the women in the club) to create the illusion of a more upper class party to conform to the conventions of business with more wealth which was symbolised through the drinks.
- The prop was easy to obtain as the bottle of Port was opaque, which meant that I could empty the bottle without the prop looking fake. I also used a wine glass as an additional prop to make the drink look more authentic and real. I overcame the problem of mimicking Port in the glass by replacing it with undiluted blackcurrant juice, making it look like real Port.
- Lighting was also an important prop to use for the drinking scene as we wanted to create the illusion that the main character had gone to a club to party. We conformed to this scene by making the room dark, as well as bringing a party light which shone various colours of the ceiling.
